WSVA MEETING MINUTES
13th June 2022
Those present: Alex Waugh, Janet Sutton, Terry Wright, Graham Cole, Bob McShee, Helen Bell, Alison Johnson, David Grey, Caroline Mankelow and Belinda Baker.

The minutes of the previous meeting were approved.
MATTERS ARISING
Nigel Mitchell is now the Chairperson of Worplesdon Parish Council and Curtis Riley is the councillor assigned to Wood Street.
It was agreed that it was good to meet together again after two years, rather than using Zoom. There was a general consensus that we should try to meet face-to-face during the summer months and then possibly return to using Zoom during the winter.
CHAIRPERSON’S REPORT
The Jubilee weekend celebrations went really well and congratulations must go to all those involved in the organisation. The Parish Council should be thanked for providing the beacon which led to a very successful beacon lighting event on the Thursday. It is hoped that the beacon can be used again by Wood Street, hopefully at the carol singing. It was good to have the funfair there. The tug- of- war was a success and it was suggested that a similar tug-of-war could take place after the dog show at the Summer Show.
It has been suggested that a memorial could be put up to acknowledge all the work that John Gunner did for the village. Bob offered to ask the family if they could suggest what they would like in the way of a memorial- suggestions included a bench on the green on an inscription on the maypole.
The meeting about anti-social behaviour on the green will take place on Monday, 20th June at 7.15pm. Comments from residents will be accepted after 20th June. Please contact Gaynor with your views and thoughts. WSVA felt unable to express its opinion until after the meeting. Alison will write to WPC to request permission for a sign to be erected saying no horse riding across the green
CALENDAR FOR 2022:
Sat 16th July: Summer Show. Arrangements are proceeding well. The Village Association agreed to run the tombola again. Bourne estate agents have been very generous in sponsoring the Show. Anyone willing to have a board outside their house advertising Bournes and the Village Show, please contact Terry on terrywright@surreyoak.co.uk
Maypole Dancing will take place from 12-1pm and the show will be opened by local MP Angela Richardson.
Louise Mandeville is co-ordinating the tea tent. It was agreed that the partition for the tea tent needs to be in the correct place this year. Someone needs to be able to light the urns- it was suggested that Harold may know how to do this. Alex also offered to look at the urns nearer the date to see how they need to be lit. It was made clear that urns should be behind the counter and only adults over 18 should operate an urn (health and safety). It is hoped that the Church will organise the collection of tables and chairs needed for the tea tent.
The tombola is run by the WSVA so many offers of help are needed: delivering leaflets, collecting donations, labelling donations and then running the stall on the day.

GUILDFORD BOROUGH COUNCIL – Bob McShee
The University of Surrey held a public exhibition last Saturday giving details of their proposed on-site renewable energy solar facility. They are looking for feedback on the exhibition and if anyone has questions about their proposal. Bob suggested they could be approached about having a stall at the Summer Show to outline their plans.
The Jubilee celebrations continue at Guildford Museum until the 18th of June. The celebrations include a new display creating a royal tea table and visitors can try their hand at being a Town crier. The museum is open from Wednesdays to Saturdays, 12 pm until 4:30 pm.
The Secretary of State has granted development consent for Highways England application to make improvements to junction 10 that connects the M25 to the A3. Highways England will be holding public events in the local area in late June and early September, at which residents can meet the team and ask questions.
The SANG situation remains unresolved with the car park still not open and no apparent developments in the area to offset the SANG. The grass is very long at the moment so people are not using the SANG and there is the continued problem of dog poo there. The developer still owns the land. Bob will try to contact the S106 officer again to see if he can find out any further information.
PARISH COUNCIL REPORT
Cllr C Riley has been appointed to be the Parish Council representative to the WSVA.
Community Speed Watch is continuing to be deployed across the Parish. New or returning volunteers are very welcome. All training is now via online tutorials. Cllr T Wright is trying to establish a second CSW group which will operate at weekends. Anyone interested in joining the CSW Scheme should contact either theAssistant Clerk or Cllr Terry Wright.
Anti-social behaviour – Damage to Wood Street Village Green
A flyer has been delivered to every household in the village seeking local residents’ views about the request to install physical measures around the Green in a bid to prevent further anti-social behaviour. A site meeting is to be held on Wood Street Village Green on Monday 20 June 2022 at 19:15.
Platinum Jubilee Events
The Parish Council is pleased to report that all of the Platinum Jubilee events were a resounding success. With grateful thanks to those involved with organising the events and to all those who helped on the day.
Replacement swim and dipping platform – Wood Street Village Pond
There has been an unavoidable delay in getting the replacement swim and dipping platform installed at the village pond. We have been promised these will be installed in June.
Request for a memorial for Mr G Newbury
The Parish Council does not wish for any further memorial benches to be installed due to the ongoing maintenance/inspection liabilities. The family were offered an alternative, which is a tree, with tree guard and plaque.
The Parish Council is proposing to plant the new ‘Worplesdon’ tree (to celebrate the Jubilee) on the triangular section of Wood Street Village Green, on the Pound Lane side of the triangle, to ensure that the area can still be used for the village Summer Show and for fun fairs.
